High performance waterproofing membrane
In the alpine region of Italy, the country´s largest multi-utility company A2A operates numerous hydroelectric facilities for water transport. Extreme temperature and water level fluctuations on the inside and outside take a heavy toll on the ability of these structures to transport water without leaking and threatening their structural stability.
Master Builders Solutions supports A2A with an advanced cementitious solution for waterproofing concrete: MasterSeal 6100 FX. A perfect combination of chemistry, performance and sustainability.

“The waterproofing coating keeps its performance even under extreme weathering effects.”

A2A, Livigno, Italy
The Valtellina region in Northern Italy, close to the Swiss border: In this mountainous nature reserve, Italy´s largest multi-utility company A2A operates several hydroelectric facilities, transporting water over long distances across deep canyons and huge rock formations. In this environment, the bridges and tunnels have to withstand severe climatic conditions. Giovanni Borsa, Senior Manager Master Builders Solutions Italy, remembers the challenge: “Low temperatures in winter, heat during summer and strong UV-radiation meant that the concrete structures in Livigno had to be completely refurbished”. His team suggested a technically superior remedy for the impaired structures: MasterSeal 6100 FX.
Quantified Sustainable Benefits
Using MasterSeal 6100 FX allowed A2A to achieve significant Quantified Sustainable Benefits. The facts:
Return to service
The superior curing properties of the waterproofing system means lower down times and fast return to service.*Figures provided are based on an actual case from the multi-utility company A2A, Italy
Reduced material consumption with proven performance
An average material thickness of only 2mm (1.8kg of powder per m2) is required for peak product performance.*Figures provided are based on an actual case from the multi-utility company A2A, Italy
Lower CO2 emissions
The lightweight formulation allows reduction of CO2 emissions over the entire product life-cycle.*Figures provided are based on an actual case from the multi-utility company A2A, Italy

“The lightweight formulation allows reduction of CO2 emissions during production and maintenance.”
Giovanni Borsa, Senior Manager Master Builders Solutions Italy
For A2A it was important for the work to be completed as quickly as possible. “MasterSeal 6100 FX has the application advantages of a single component liquid applied coating, coupled with a short curing time,” Giovanni Borsa says. “This enables the operator to put the structure back into use very quickly and reduce down times.” Further benefit include up to 50% lower material requirements and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

“We are at the customer’s side throughout the whole project.”
Giovanni Borsa, Senior Manager Master Builders Solutions Italy
“We supported A2A right from the beginning and advised them on how to master this challenge”. Mr. Borsa and his team from Master Builders Solutions were also available throughout the execution phase: “We have provided continual technical assistance to guarantee the best application results.” To this day Mr. Borsa still accompanies the waterproofing project with regular inspections and on-site testing. For him the personal connection to A2A was of special importance: “This enables a much closer collaboration and ultimately contributes to achieving the desired project outcome.”
